Guildford Spectrum

About

Guildford Spectrum is the town's big council-owned leisure complex, and on game nights its Olympic-size ice rink becomes home to the Guildford Flames, who compete in the Elite Ice Hockey League, the top flight of British ice hockey. Founded in 1992, the Flames stepped up to the Elite League in 2017 and remain one of Surrey's best-supported teams. Match nights are noisy and family-friendly, with drums, chanting and a crowd that often comes close to filling the rink, so it is worth booking ahead for big games. The bar is open before face-off and during the intervals, and food outlets keep things ticking over. Away from hockey, the Spectrum also has swimming pools, a diving pool, tenpin bowling and a large sports arena. For a winter Saturday night out in Guildford, the Flames take some beating.
