About

St Albans Cathedral stands on the hill where Alban, Britain's first Christian martyr, is said to have been executed, and has been a place of pilgrimage for well over a thousand years. Its immensely long nave, Norman tower built from Roman brick, medieval wall paintings and restored shrine of St Alban make it one of England's most remarkable churches. Entry is free, there's a café and shop, and through the year it hosts concerts, exhibitions and seasonal fairs. Verulamium Park lies just below.
