The Festive Forest at Clearwell Caves
Meet Father Christmas, then follow the woodland animals as they prepare for Christmas Day in a spectacular forest built deep underground in the caverns of Clearwell Caves. Halfway round there's an underground cafe for hot chocolate and cake, and children aged 2 to 12 receive a gift. Booking is online only, and it's a constant 10 degrees below ground, so wrap up warm. From 27 to 31 December the caves reopen for the displays only, without Father Christmas.

Santa Specials on the Dean Forest Railway
Ride behind a real steam engine through the Forest of Dean and meet Santa and his elves on board, with presents for the children, a miniature for the adults and mince pies for everyone. The round trip from Norchard Station takes about an hour and a quarter. Add a festive afternoon tea or picnic bag from Whistle's cafe to make a proper day of it. Departures run between 10:15am and 3:30pm, though not every slot runs every day.
